MARGIE KWASNICA CARROLL – Nov 30, 1932 – Apr 12, 2024

On November 30, 1932, Margie Kwasnica was born in Bremond Texas, welcomed by her parents Martin and Janie Kwasnica. Her parents helped to instill a deep faith and strong work ethic in their seven children. Like her six sisters and one brother, Margie excelled in school, graduating from Bremond High as valedictorian and Senior class president.

During her early adult life, Margie served as a school teacher for the Felician sisters--in Nebraska, California and Texas, worked as a certified legal secretary in Houston, and joined the National Association of Legal Secretaries International. In addition to having a strong work ethic, Margie was a lifelong learner who developed her personal and professional skills through memberships and trainings with the Dorothy Carnegie and Toastmistress organizations. In 1975, she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Dominican College.

Margie loved her sweets and liked to bake, including delicious rum balls, enjoyed by friends and family during the Christmas holidays. She also enjoyed socializing, dancing and poetry. Margie met and fell in love with a former Navy man who shared her Catholic faith, love of music and sense of humor. In November 1984, Charley Carroll and Margie married in Houston and subsequently moved to Siver Spring, Maryland, where she worked for Washington D.C. law firms McNair Law Firm, and Foley & Lardner, LLP.

Throughout their time together, Margie and Charley traveled extensively in Europe, visiting historical, cultural and religious sites in France, Portugal, Spain, Italy and Belgium. In 1996, the National Library of Poetry published her poem, “Today and Tomorrow” in their anthology of poems, “Through the Hourglass.”

A woman of deep faith, Margie modeled love, modesty and compassion for family and friends. In April 2023, she returned to her home State of Texas, where her sisters, nieces and nephews were blessed to have spent time with her more frequently. She resided in Waco, Texas until her death on April 12, 2024. Margie is preceded in death by her parents Martin and Janie Kwasnica, brother Ignatius Kwasnica, beloved husband Charley Carroll (laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery), and her sisters Christine (Sr. Malvina) Kwasnica and Pauline Slaughter. She is survived and fondly remembered by her sisters, Helen Krzes of Houston, Texas; Margaret Foster of Reagan, Texas; Mary Jane Wayt of Shreveport, Louisiana; and her many nieces and nephews.

We will memorialize and celebrate Margie Kwasnica Carroll with a Mass of Christian burial on Saturday, May 18 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bremond.
