Margie Freeman Farnsworth
December 2, 1923 – April 15, 2013
Surrounded by her family, Margie Freeman Farnsworth, of Hewitt, Texas, laced up her dancing shoes for the final time to meet her Creator after 89 years of baking apple pies and being the family’s short order cook. Granny’s kitchen may have permanently closed at 5 a.m. Monday, April 15th, but her recipes, love for gardening and joy for family gatherings will continue to fill the lives of those she loved and raised.
The General, a much-loved nickname she carried for twenty-seven years, was born in Paris, Texas, to Viola and Floyd Freeman. After writing to her co-worker’s son being held as a prisoner of war during World War II for one year, they met and married upon his safe return. Following him throughout Texas and raising their three children, Margie took on the role of grandmother, which she happily enjoyed for thirty-six years.
Dearly missed, the family finds it appropriate that she left this world baking her famous apple pie that was always fresh out of the oven for anyone’s visit.
She was preceded in death by her parents, numerous beloved aunts and uncles, and two siblings.
Margie leaves behind her husband, Frank Farnsworth; her son, Floyd Farnsworth and his wife Joyce; her eldest daughter, Susan Nix and her husband James; her youngest daughter, Debbie Lundgren and her husband Steve; and brothers, James Freeman and his wife Mildred and Bobby Freeman and his wife Ann.
Additionally, she will continue to guide her grandchildren as they hear her advice daily in the chirping of the birds and the flutter of the hummingbird’s wings. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren are Chanda Pearson and her three children, Andy Farnsworth and his two children, Matt Howell and his three children, Alex Nix Vaughan, Nick Lundgren, and Tate Lundgren.
Margie will also be blessed this summer with two more great-granddaughters – Susan Madrid Vaughan and Trinity Howell - who will know her through the memories of their parents.
No formal services will be held, each family member celebrating her life in a manner of their choosing.
