Margie Nelson, 85, of China Spring, went to be with her Lord and Savior Tuesday, October 8, 2013. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 12, at OakCrest Funeral Home with Chaplain Curtis Holland and Reverend Joe Miller officiating. Burial will follow at China Spring Cemetery. Visitation with Margie’s family will be 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, October 11, at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.
Margie was born July 31, 1928 in rural McLennan County, near China Spring, to Homer and Ona Wallace Robinson. She was the second of four children. Margie attended school in China Spring and later transferred to Waco High. During the Revival of 1939, Margie was saved and baptized at the First Baptist Church in China Spring where she was a life time member. She married Howard Nelson on March 22, 1947.
Margie was famous for her Marge Burgers at the Country Store. Later, she opened a daycare for toddlers. In 1978, she was a caregiver for Veterans of War in her home. Margie was a devoted Christian and lived life for the Lord.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Nelson Sr., her daughters, Debbie Nelson, who died September 23, 1975 and Darlene Nelson Ewing who died July 30, 2000; her parents; sister, Lois Wade; and brother, James Robinson.
Margie is survived by her devoted son, Howard “Bubba” Nelson Jr. and wife, Cecile Shook Nelson from China Spring; her sister, Pauline “Polly” Smith of Waco; three grandsons, Craig Ewing and wife, Lisa from Oglesby, Kevin Ewing and wife, Mary from Jonestown and Joshua Rowell and wife, Jordan of Irving; five great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and numerous relatives and friends.
Margie’s family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. John Kosarek and staff for their devotion and exceptional care. In addition, the family would like to thank the staff at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center, Dr. Young and the staff of 4 South for their excellent care of Margie.
