Maria De Los Remedios Reyna, 85, of Eddy, passed away Monday, February 9, 2009 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 12, at OakCrest Funeral Home with the Rev. Javier Leyva officiating. Burial will follow in Eddy Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday, February 11, at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd. A memorial video honoring her life will be shown during the visitation and service.

Maria was born on September 1, 1923, in Alamo, TX, as one of eight children from the union of Pedro and Antonia Saenz. A longtime resident of Eddy, TX, Maria married German Reyna in Hidalgo County, Edinburg, TX.

She was a member of El Buen Pastor United Methodist Church of Moody, TX. Her passion for yard work was shared with her husband and carries on today with several of her children.

As Matriarch of the Reyna family, she lovingly insisted on family gatherings for every birthday and holiday where her love of cooking left every member and friend of the Reyna family fulfilled.

One of Maria's specialties was her tamales which were enjoyed by many people in the community who were lucky enough to make the famous Reyna Christmas Tamale List. In fact, her tamales won several awards, including Best Tamale at the Cinco de Mayo Festival of Central Texas.

Maria was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, German, brothers, Lino Saenz, Tomas Saenz, Domingo Saenz, and sister, Josephina Flores. Shortly after her death, her brother, Rafae Saenz, passed away.

Survivors include sons, Justice Felipe Reyna and wife Cheryl of Lorena, Filiberto "Bert" Reyna and wife Martha of Austin, Filigonio "Phil" Reyna and wife LaDonna of Eddy, daughters, Enriqueta "Ms. Henri" Sauseda and husband Benito of Eddy, and Hope Rouse and companion Mike Frisch of Waco; grandchildren, Martin Lee Sauseda and companion Kim Wickman of Eddy, Joanne Graybill and companion Darrell Sharp of Durango, Daniel Reyna and wife Lisa of Waco, Abelino "Abel" Reyna and companion Halston Olinger of Waco, Darin Brock and wife Tracy of Hewitt, Steven Brock and wife Sharon of College Station, German Blake Reyna of Ft. Worth, Carmen Britney Reyna of Ft. Worth, Austin "Bear" Reyna of College Station; great-grandchildren, Marcus, Marissa and Marshall Sauseda of Eddy, Erica and Elaina Graybill of Durango, Samuel and Owen Brock of Hewitt, Ty, Luke and Grayson Brock of College Station.

Survivors also include her brother, Fidel Saenz, and sister, Uvalda Gutierrez, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Martin Sauseda, Daniel Reyna, Abel Reyna, German Blake Reyna, Austin "Bear" Reyna, Darin Brock and Steven Brock. Honorary pallbearers will be Marcus and Marshall Sauseda of Eddy.
