In the early morning hours on Christmas Eve while surrounded by loved ones, Maria Guadalupe Ortiz, known to many as "Mary" or "Lupe", went to be with our Heavenly Father.
Maria was born on July 11, 1985 in Waco, Texas to Ann E. Ceniceros and Jose Guerrero Diaz.
Maria worked for Waco ISD as a teacher's aid before she passed away. She always wanted to be a teacher and in the last two years of her life, she was able to live out her dream. She loved her kids.
Before Waco ISD, she worked for many years as the switchboard operator at the Family Health Center. She was the first person you would see as you walked in the door, and the person who would greet everyone that came through those doors.
On April 29, 2014, Maria began her battle with Breast Cancer, but on December 14, 2015, she was cancer free and was able to ring the bell. February 20, 2020, Maria was diagnosed with Liver Cancer. Maria still went to work even though she was battling cancer. She showed up everyday with a smile on her face and never complained. When she wasn't working, she was always doing something with the kids. She was big on education and made sure that Daniel stayed on track with his reading. Maria looked forward to the day that Fatima would become a teacher just like her. Maria was always the strongest one of her siblings and she was also the friendliest of them all.
Maria was preceded in death by her sister, Priscilla Nicole Puentes.
Maria is survived by her husband, Toby Charles Ortiz, and her loving children, daughter, Fatima Ortiz, who helped nurse her mother until the very end, and Daniel Ortiz, who always made sure to keep Maria on her toes; her parents, mother, Ann Ceniceros and husband, Esli Ubaldo Ceniceros, and father, Jose Guerrero Diaz and wife, Juana Guerrero; siblings, Jennifer Vences and husband, Orlando, Maricela Limones and husband, Robert, Sylvia Suarez and husband, Tony, Jessica Jaramillo and husband, Saul Jaramillo Ugarte, and Jose Antonio Guerrero; nieces, Leilani Vences, Alesandra Limones, Ariel Limones, Mia Suarez, and Ava Suarez; and nephew, Ryan Jaramillo.
