Marie Lander Bates, 88, passed away Sunday Feb. 19 2012 in St. Catherine Center in Waco. Funeral services will be10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, at OakCrest Funeral Home with Rev. Curtis Holland officiating. Burial will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Restland Cemetery in Gatesville.

Marie was born November 21, 1923 in Leroy to John and Emma Heine Lander. On March 12, 1959 in Waco, she married Roma Scott Bates. She was confirmed as a teenager in the United Church of Christ. She had an extremely happy childhood playing with her nine brothers and sisters and dancing. She worked for the Weston Cookie Factory for several years. She later worked in the kitchen for the WISD. She had resided in the Waco area for the past 63 years.

Marie is survived by her husband, Scott Bates, one son, Gary Bates; and sister, Irene Janke, all of Waco.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents and seven brothers and sister, Lydia Schuetz
