Marie Therrell, 80, of Waco passed away peacefully at her home after a battle with cancer. Services will be 10 am Tuesday, July 18, 2006 at OakCrest Funeral Home with Dr. Rodney Kruse. Burial to follow at Rosemound Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm on Monday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque. Friends and family may start coming by the funeral home Monday morning.
Marie was born February 20, 1926 in Waco and attended Waco High School. She was a former member of the U.S. Navy as a wave, where she served for one year in 1943. She was married to the late Tommy Therrell who preceded her in death in 1999. They were married 45 years. Both were the former owners of Therrell Lock and Safe Co and Therrell Alarm and Protection Service. She was the first woman ever elected as president of the Texas Locksmiths Association in 1977. She was also secretary of the Texas Locksmiths Association for 12 years. Prior to her retirement in 1987 she was a member of the Waco Business Women's Association and was a member of Eastern Star. After her retirement she was an avid traveler which included the Caribbean, Europe, the United States and South America. She had previously been a volunteer in the day surgery department of Providence Hospital. Among her favorite things were traveling and crafts. She lived life and enjoyed it to the upmost.
She is survived by two daughters, Susan Merryfield of Lubbock and Laura Harrington-Cornwell of Dallas; five grandchildren, Donald Easterwood Jr., Mark Easterwood, Kay Easterwood- Sanchez, Steven Molden and David Clark; and eight great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Donald Easterwood Jr., Mark Easterwood, Steven Molden, David Clark, Bob Pugh and Jay Deville.
We deeply appreciate the loving care shown to our mother by Visiting Angels and the Scott and White Hospice. Marie has requested that in Lieu of flowers donations be made to the American Caner Society.
