Marvin Schlemmer

Marvin Fred Schlemmer, 78, of Riesel passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2006. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, 2006 at the OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd., with Chaplain Curtis Holland and the Rev. Al Schwecke officiating. Burial will follow at Riesel Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at OakCrest Funeral Home.
Mr. Schlemmer was born in Mart to Sophie Winkelmann Schlemmer and Walter M. Schlemmer. He married his wife of 53 years Christine Brown on Feb 3, 1953 in Riesel. He retired from General Tire after 40 years of service, and then worked for the City of Riesel before retiring in 1998.
Mr. Schlemmer was an Air Force veteran, served on the Riesel City Council from 1988 to 1991, and on the Riesel School Board for 15 years. He was a member of Friedens United Church of Christ, Masonic Lodge # 835 A.F.&A.M., the Riesel Volunteer Fire Department, and the Riesel Lions Club.
Mr. Schlemmer is survived by his wife, Christine of Riesel; son, Deryl Schlemmer and wife, Martha of Waco; daughter, Denise Wells and husband, Michael of Riesel; sister, LaVerne Lebkowsky and husband, Leon of Dallas; four grandchildren, Natalie Schlemmer of Waco, Keele Wells of Temple, Tara Schlemmer of Waco and Kory Wells of Riesel, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Burney Mullens, Fred Robert Schlemmer, Wilburn Winkelman, Weldon Schlemmer, Gene Shelton, and Greg Lebkowsky. Honorary pallbearers will be Buddy Schroeder, Henry Winkelmann, and Bill Hoeft.
Memorials may be made to Frieden's United Church of Christ in Riesel or to the Riesel Volunteer Fire Department.
