Sam Wheat, Jr.
October 22, 1947 – April 22, 2014
Marvin Samuel “Sam” Wheat, Jr., 66, of Houston, was reunited with his mother and other loved ones when he entered Heaven April 22, 2014. Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at OakCrest Funeral Home with burial at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6 - 8 p.m. Thursday at OakCrest Funeral Home.
Sammy was born in Corsicana, Texas, to Marvin S. and Marie (Mathis) Wheat. Sam grew up in Central Texas, graduating from Mexia High School. As a young man, he joined the U.S. Navy to serve his country.
Sam spent several years as a Fleet Sales Manager for an automobile company. He also served as manager for Sanderson Farms, Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants as well as several other restaurants where he enjoyed management responsibilities.
Sam was an adventurer! He loved the beauty of nature and spent much time exploring and camping in the beautiful forests and mountainous areas from the southern states of Tennessee, Virginia, all the way to South Dakota and many other areas of the United States.
Survivors include his father, Marvin S. (Buck) Wheat, Sr. of Waco; a brother, Alan Wheat of Houston; two sisters, Nelda Collaway of Austin, and Susan Johnson of Connecticut, as well as his step-brother, Kim Korenek.
Memorials may be made to Grace Temple Baptist Church, Waco.
