Mary Bess Beard, 78, of Waco, passed away Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center after a short illness. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, January 3, 2011 at OakCrest Funeral Home with Rev. Curtis Holland officiating. Burial will follow at Bold Springs Cemetery near West. Visitation with the family will be 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, January 2, at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.
Mary was born January 18, 1932 in Calvert to William Wilson Robertson and Delma Lee Guynes Robertson. She graduated from LaVega High School in Waco where she met Thomas Henry Beard. They were married March 31, 1951 in Waco after Tom returned from the Korean War, and then they moved to San Diego. Tom and Mary enjoyed 59 years of marriage.
Mary was employed at Central Freight Lines in Waco and later retired as an Executive Administrative Assistant at IASA Insurance Company in Bedford. After her retirement, she and Tom moved to their farm in Abbott where they lived for 10 years before moving back to Waco. Mary and Tom enjoyed many trips to the Korean War Chosin Few Reunions. Most recently, they attended the reunion in Minneapolis. She also enjoyed trips to Branson to see country western shows. Mary loved her family and was happiest when they were all together. She was a member of the Women's Auxiliary of the West Chapter of Veterans of Foreign Wars, long time member of Western Heights Baptist Church and volunteer on the bereavement committee, a member of the YMCA and former board member for the Senior Dance Club in West.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Madalyn Henderson.
Mary is survived by her husband, Tom; daughter, Marilyn Wachsmann and husband, Steve; son, Randy Beard and wife, Rene'; granddaughters, Shelly Stripling and husband, Andrew, Jodie Wachsmann and Ashley Gemperle and husband, Robbie; grandson, Brett Beard; great granddaughter, Molly Stripling; her sisters, Beverly Whatley and Elizabeth Fuller and husband, Jimmy Don; and many nieces and nephews.
