Mary Sue Dodson, 73, of Waco, passed away Saturday, February 7, 2009 with her family by her side. Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb 11, at Chapel Hill Memorial Park with the Rev. Robert Buchanan officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.

Mary was born in Oklahoma City to Ted Hutchinson and Hester McCurley Hutchinson. She married her husband of 52 years Colonel James Dodson,Jr. on October 20, 1956 in Corpus Christi. Mary was a homemaker and a member of Crossroads Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Jeri Conway; granddaughter, Kari; and great granddaughter, Kassidy.

Mary is survived by her husband, Ret. Col. James Dodson; daughters, Dr. Linda Dulin and husband, Jim of Woodway, Nancy Lanham and husband, Chris of Woodway, Kay Bailey and husband, Keith of Waco, and Jennifer Biles and husband, Steve of Lutz, Fla.; son, Ted Dodson of Thailand; nine grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

Mary Sue grew up in Corpus Christi, TX. As a teenager, she played the cello in the Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra. When she married the love of her life, she traveled the world as an Army wife. She was active in the Officers' Wives club, loved to play bridge, and taught Sunday school for 35 years.

The role that brought her the most joy in life was being a wife and mother. She was a devoted Christian who exemplified the finest qualities of motherhood. Nothing brought her more pleasure than raising her children. And the only children more perfect than her own were her grandchildren.

Mary Sue loved traveling. Whether it was going to Goose Island and fishing or traveling to some exotic country, she and James loved their retirement years. They were best friends in a marriage that spanned more than half of a century.

Mary Sue Dodson leaves a legacy of love.
