Mary Nell was born November 14, 1928 in Waco, Texas. She was the daughter of Hoyt Amos and Alva Mae Warren Amos.
After graduating from Mart High School in 1947, she attended Powers Modeling School in Dallas, Texas. She worked at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Waco, Texas where she met Vernon Arch Harrell. They were married on February 21, 1948. They were owners of Coastal Restaurants, Inc. in Houston, Texas. Mary and Vernon raised their 2 children, Mike and Pat, in Houston and later in Spring, Texas. Vernon passed away December 21, 2003.
Mary married John Calvin Hammel April 7, 2009 at Austin Avenue United Methodist Church in Waco, Texas and made her new home in Fresno, California. They traveled and enjoyed a very active life in the Anglican Church until his death on September 11, 2014.
Mary returned to Waco, Texas in May 2015 and joined Austin Avenue Methodist, now First Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Pathfinders Class, Health Shapers and Joy Club.
Mary was a member of McLennan Chapter #639 Order of the Eastern Star and Elizabeth Gordon Bradley Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.
Mary will be laid to rest with her husband Vernon Harrell at the Houston National Cemetery.
Mary was preceded in death by her brothers; Harold Hyot Amos, January 14, 1978 and Jimmy Ray Amos, October 10, 1979 and son Michael Wayne Harrell, May 13, 1999.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Lynn Harrell of the Woodlands, Daughter-in-law, Melody Harrell Knerl of Houston, Granddaughter Morgan Elaine Harrell and Zachary Paul Luke of West, Grandson Matthew Scott Harrell and fiancé Katarina Renee Roach of Killeen and one great-grandson Ollie Paul Luke of West, Sister Martha Louise Akins of Waco, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
