Dr. Elizabeth (Beth) McEntire ,71, passed away on Wednesday, December 26, 2007 at a local hospital.
Memorial services will be held Monday, December 31st at 4:00 p.m. at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd, with Dr. Burt Burleson officiating. The family will be available for visitation immediately after the service.
Beth was born in Windsor, Missouri on July 22, 1935 to young pastor George Caldwell Humphrey and Stella Osgood Humphrey. She attended elementary schools in Portales, New Mexico, Shawnee, Oklahoma and in Waco. She graduated from Waco High School and from Baylor University.
She earned her master's degree at the University of Texas in San Antonio and her doctorate at the University of Texas at Austin. Her early teaching experience was with public school children after which she established her career as a University professor of educational psychology at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, Quincy College in Quincy, Illinois and Baylor University in Waco where she retired in December of this year. Her students serve throughout the nation in teaching and counseling positions.
Beth enjoyed reading and music, academic discussions and the friendships of many friends and colleagues as well as her country home in Clifton, Texas. She has always been active in churches and in service organizations such as Cross Ties Church and Talitha Koum .
She recently served as leader of religious studies with her church group in Whitney, Texas.
Beth was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Charles Robert Humphrey and her daughter, Martha Ann McEntire.
She is survived by her former husband, J. L. McEntire; their adopted daughter, Juli McEntire Gonzales and her two daughters in San Antonio; sister Dorothy Lynn of Waco; niece Dr. Patricia Elizabeth Davis and husband, Dr. John Bugge and their son, Stefan Bugge of Atlanta, Georgia.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to charities of choice including Talitha Koum.
