Mary Eunice Meeker Hendrix Soukup
October 17, 1928 - January 16, 2009
Mary Meeker Hendrix Soukup, 80, of Waco, left for her heavenly home on Friday, Jan. 16, 2009, at St. Catherine's Center in Waco. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009 at 4 p.m. at Oakcrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd., with visitation to follow.
A memorial video honoring her life will be shown during the visitation. Minister Ernie Christie will officiate the service. In abiding with Ms. Soukup's wishes, her tissue and organs will be donated and her body will be sent to a medical education facility. Her remains will be cremated and sprinkled at a private ceremony at a later date.
Mary was born in Spring Valley, Texas to Lawrence Meeker and Julia Bell Myers Meeker. She was married to Joe Malley Hendrix from 1948 until his death in 1988. Ms. Soukup was married to B.R. Soukup from Nov. 1998 until May 2006.
She was a life-long member of Lake Shore Drive Church of Christ. She was a member of Sweet Adelines singing group, an avid gardener and loved to share her talent of floral arrangements with her many friends and family. She was a member of the Knitters and Quilters group at Providence Health Center and a member of the Parkinson's Support Group at the Getterman's Center.
Ms. Soukup retired from American Amicable Life Insurance after 35 years of service. She began her career as a manual elevator operator transferring to file clerk when the elevators were automated.
Ms. Soukup was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joe Malley Hendrix; six brothers, Ardie, Ace, Jesse, Leo, Curtis and Raymond Meeker; and a grandson, John David Drosche.
She is survived by her daughters: Mary Ann Hensel and husband, Alan; and Donna Drosche and husband, John; her grandchildren: Lori Young and husband, Tommy; Brad Hensel and wife, Monica; and Malley Cecile Drosche; her great grandchildren: Alex and Jacob Hensel and Joshua and Justin Young. She is also survived by her sister, Bonnie Hughes; brothers and sisters-in law, Ralph Meeker; Duane Meeker; Brother-in-law, David and Leslie Hendrix; Brother-in-law, Earl Gates; Emily Hope; Floyd and Ann Hendrix and Helen Meeker; and a host of beloved nieces and nephews.
