Mary Hilley Stoermer, lifelong Waco resident, passed away November 12, 2006. She was 90 years old. After a private service, she was buried in Oakwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Stoermer was born March 29, 1916 to John Gordon Hilley and Janie Moor Hilley. She attended Waco High School and was a lifetime member of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church. Over the course of her life, she owned and operated a gas station, a grocery store, and a rooming house. She also worked for Word, Inc. and West Wholesale Grocers. Her husband, Rudy Stoermer, died in 1988 after 41 years of marriage. Two brothers, Gordon Hilley of Temple and Lewis Hilley of Morgan's Point also predeceased her.
Mrs. Stoermer is survived by her daughter, Stephanie M. Stoermer of Lakewood, CO; grandson, Alexander D. Strickland of Citrus Heights, CA; niece, Jan Hilley of New York City; sister, Evelyn Barker of Waco; sister-in-law, Louise Blackstock of Lake Jackson, and numerous nieces and nephews.
