Matthew David Johnson
December 17, 1994 – May 10, 2008
Matthew David Johnson, age 22, beloved son of Candyce House Johnson of Waco and James K. Johnson of Dallas, passed away Thursday, May 10, 2007 in Boulder, Colorado where he was a senior at the University of Colorado Boulder.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, at Fellowship Bible Church, 9300 N. Central Expressway, in Dallas, with Dr. Bill Counts officiating. Reception and visitation with the family will follow.
The visitation in Waco will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, May 17, at the OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd. A memorial video honoring his life will be shown during the visitation. A graveside service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Oakwood Cemetery with Peter McLeod officiating.
Matthew was born in Waco, and later moved to Dallas where he graduated from Greenhill School. He was known for his gentle nature and sense of humor. He could always find something to laugh about, even in times of trouble and never failed to offer a helping hand to those who needed it.
Matthew's love of travel took him to many parts of the world including extensive travel in the United States and Europe, his favorite being China. His favorite activities were playing Lacrosse, jet skiing, snow skiing, and scuba diving with his dad. He was an avid outdoorsman, loving to hunt, fish, and ride dirt bikes and four wheelers at his father's ranch.
As a sixth generation grandson of Davy Crockett, he was true Texan who loved everything about Texas. When he graduated from high school, he was given the Texas flag that flew over the capital that day.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Leon House, Jr., and paternal grandfather, Ken Johnson.
Matthew will be remembered as one who enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest with his family and friends.
He is survived by his mother, Candyce House Johnson of Waco; father, James K. Johnson and wife, Brenda, of Dallas; stepbrothers, Andrew Lloyd and Jimmy Cash, both of Dallas; grandmothers, Edra Faye House of Waco and Mary Johnson of Eugene, Oregon; uncles, David Tharpe House of Waco and Donald Johnson of Seattle; aunt, Lynn Lockhart of Eugene, Oregon; great-aunt, Maudie Humphrey of Ebenezer, Ms.; cousins, David, Elaine, Thomas and Rebeka Flemming of Cruger, Ms., Guy, Lana, Barton and Fowler Boyll of Jackson, Ms., Burwell, Jill, and Maime Barton, of Jackson, Ms., and Ben, Joe and Jake Lockhart, C.E. and Carol Barton of Ebenezer, Mis., and Barry and Elaine Smith of Mesquite; and lifelong friends, Daniel Carroll and Christopher Massey.
Honorary pallbearers will be Christopher Massey, Daniel Carroll, John Lesikar, Chris Dwyer, Jeff Watson, Ken Nikaidoh, David House and Rick Orwig.
