Maxine was born December 27, 1933 in Alamo, Texas in the Rio Grande Valley to Lawrence and Victoria Beach Brennan. She was the first of six siblings. She started school in Alamo, Texas before the family moved to West. Maxine attended St. Mary’s Elementary and graduated from West High School in 1952. She then attended 4-C Business School in Waco.

After several office positions in Waco, she moved back to West to take a position at West National Bank. After enjoying the people contact and learning the functions of working in small banks, she moved to Dallas to work at Highland Park State Bank. When she moved back to Waco to work at First National Bank, she met and fell in love with her future husband, Willie E. Hammonds. They were married May 18, 1957 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West. They made their home in Waco, Texas where they raised their four children.

As a homemaker and mother of four, Maxine volunteered at St. Louis Catholic Church and the school and was involved in numerous committees. She and Willie attended many band concerts, Little League baseball games, track meets and soccer games at Reicher High School, as well as many other activities. She enjoyed membership in Waco Catholic Bible Study for over 25 years and volunteered at Providence Hospital for over 30 years. Maxine was on the Bereavement committee, served as Eucharistic Minister, and started the charity that made quilts for Providence Hospital Heart Group. She was also a member of the Waco Homespun Quilters. She truly enjoyed sewing and quilting.

Maxine shared her husband’s love of banking. They traveled on many weekend trips to Texas Bankers Association Conventions. They also shared many cruises and trips to Port Aransas with their children, other family members, and friends. She loved to go dancing, working in the yard feeding the birds, reading, playing Mah Jong, and especially working puzzles and watching the Lady Baylor Bears.

Her faith, her loving supportive family, and her many friends were very important to her. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were her pride and joy.
