Marion C. "M.C." Welborn Jr., 83, of Waco, passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 19, 2010 after a ten year battle with Alzheimer's. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, October 23 at OakCrest Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Gillum officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.
M.C. was born August 30, 1927 in Norphlet, Arkansas to Marion C. Welborn Sr. and Florence Lozier Welborn. Upon graduation from high school in 1945, M.C. enlisted and proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. After his service with the Marines, M.C. began a life-long career in the petroleum industry. He married Deborah Wallace December 10, 1958 and together raised five children. M.C. worked most of his life in the oil fields of West Texas for Humble Oil Company and later Exxon. After 35 years of service with Exxon, he retired in 1989 as an Operations Superintendant in Midland.
M.C. was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mary Lou Rike; an infant daughter, Martha Elizabeth; and grandson, William and sister, Phyllis Gene Welborn.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah; sons, J.B. Welborn of Gardendale, Jeff Welborn and family of Fulshear, James Welborn and family of Dripping Springs; daughters, Donna Hoppe and family of Montgomery, Marion Ekman and family of Waco; and brother, Bruce Welborn and family of Flower Mound; sister in law, Waldine Scott of Buna. He had fifteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to the Westview Manor Nursing Home in McGregor, Providence Hospice and Waldine Scott for their loving care of M.C. during the last months of his life.
