Melanie Anne Lowrey
June 4, 1948 – January 15, 2007
Melanie Anne (Goss) Lowrey, age 58, of Waco, died peacefully Monday morning, January 15, 2007 at her home surrounded by her family.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the OakCrest Funeral Home with the Rev. Pat Cummings officiating. Burial will follow at Rosemound Cemetery. The family will receive friends and visitors on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque. A video honoring her beautiful life will be shared during the visitation times.
Melanie was born June 4, 1948 in Waco to James and Mildred (Lowery) Goss. She graduated from University High School in 1966 and received certification as a medical assistant from Bryan Institute in 1989. She has been a homemaker since 1992.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her aunt Joyce.
She leaves behind the love of her life and devoted husband of 15 years, Skip Lowrey; daughters, Leigh Ann Villarrial and husband, Jamie, and Polly Walker of Hewitt; son, Greg Walker and wife, Maureen of Lorena; step-sons, Skipper Lowrey Jr., and Mark Lowrey; step-daughter, Julie Hoffman and husband, Thomas of Houston; sister, Kim Makovy and husband, Darrell of Lorena; and brothers, Randy Goss and wife, Karla of Hurst, and Dale Goss and wife, Jana of China Spring. She was known as "Nana" to her grandchildren, Zachary Lewallen, Adrin Guerra, Logan Villarrial, Oakland and Brinn Hoffman, Lillith Lowrey, Sebastian Davis, Duncan Lowrey, and one more blessing due June 21, 2007.
She will be missed by her loyal and protective furry friend of 12 years, "Gizmo." She is also survived by her closest friends, Beverly Kelley, Patti Nix, Gloria Tambling, and Linda Fletcher; special cousin, Jimmy LaVelle III, special great-niece, Shaylie Makovy, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews who loved their "Aunt Mel."
Melanie was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend. She played all of these roles in a manner that made her loved by all who knew her. She lived a life of giving, always willing to help out a friend in need and hardly ever met a stranger. Her warm heart and outgoing personality will be missed by everyone who knew her. Her compassion and love for people extended to everyone she met, especially to her many friends at Papa Joe's.
The family especially thanks Providence Hospice for the loving and gentle care, and gives a personal thank you to the staff at C&D Hair Creations, Lucinda, David, Andrea and Cecilia, for their loving care and kindness during her illness.
Pallbearers will be Shane Goss, Darrell Makovy II, Blake Guerra, Steve Meyers, Eddie Knowles, Ricci Bottoms, Junior Kelley, and Tony Palafox. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy (Stubby" Allen and Mike Tambling.
