Melba Melendy
September 6, 1923 – February 22, 2015

Melba Frances Gaston Melendy passed away Sunday, February 22, 2015 at her home in Hewitt. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 14 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ the King Baptist Church, 4777 Lake Shore Dr, Waco, TX 76710.

She was born September 6, 1923 in Morrowville, KS, the second child of Melvin and Delma Faye Gaston. She was valedictorian of her high school class, earned a teaching certificate, and first taught in a one-room schoolhouse. On May 15, 1942, she married the love of her life, Harry William Melendy, with whom she had five children. She had a great faith in God and lived her life in service to him and to others. In her patience and love, she was always willing to lend a listening ear and an understanding heart to those around her without passing judgment. To her family she leaves a wonderful heritage and a firm spiritual foundation. She taught at Trinity Christian School and later sewed custom drapes. She and her husband were founding members of Trinity Church in Waco, and stayed until the church property was deeded to Christ the King Baptist Church, of which they then became active
members. Her soprano voice and her husband’s tenor were well loved in the church.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sister, Delma Synovec; brother, Leroy Gaston; and her granddaughter, Tamara Morris.

She is survived by her children: Janice Emmite of Dickinson; Virginia Cargill of Waco; Lloyd & Karen Melendy of Crowley; Larry & Judy Melendy of Pagosa Springs, CO; and Debra & Michael Priest of Hewitt; by her sister Letty & Elmer Miller of Peru, IA; 18 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 3 great great-grandchildren.

Her family extends thanks to her friends, who showed her love to the end, and to Krystal and the staff of Bluebonnet Health Services.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Christ the King Baptist Church or to Bluebonnet Health Services.
