Melvin Harris, 86, of China Spring, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at Providence Medical Center. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday, June 26 at Reed's Lake Cemetery near Rogers with Rev. David Shuttlesworth officiating. Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.
Melvin was born April 1, 1923 in Rogers to William Buford Harris and Eula Jane Cooper Harris. He served his country in the US Army during WWII. Melvin married Ruby Alta Campbell on September 20, 1942 in Rogers.
He worked for General Tire Company for over 17 years and worked with his brother who owned and operated Bill Harris General Tire for over 32 years on Franklin Avenue in Waco. Melvin retired in 1986. He was a member of Parklake Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his nephew, William C. Harris.
Melvin is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ruby Harris; brother, William V. Harris and wife, Iva of China Spring; niece, Edna Harris Howland of China Spring; great-nephew, William F. Harris of Richardson; and great-niece, Rebekah L. Harris of St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your favorite charity.
