Mercedes Romero

Mercedes Perez Romero, 96 years old, passed away in Charlottesville, Virginia while visiting her
daughter she went into a diabetic coma and passed. Visitation will be from 6:00 - 8:00 pm followed by Rosary held at 7:00 PM on Thursday, November 17, 2022 at Oak Crest Funeral Home and Funeral mass will be officiated by Rev. Albert Ruiz on Friday, November 18, 2022 at 10:00 AM at St. Francis on the Brazos Catholic Church, Waco, Texas, with burial services following at Waco Memorial Park.

Mercedes was born in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico to Sixto Perez and Mercedes Carmona. She later married Johnnie Romero and moved to Waco, Texas.

Mercedes met the love of her life, Johnnie Romero, in Mexico; they were married for 62 years until his death in 2007. She was a good mother and busy homemaker until she was 64 years old when she decided to seek her first job; she worked at Caritas of Waco for approximately 12 years.

She was a member of La Benemerita Sociedad Mutualista Mexicana de Jornaleros for over 50 years. She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church for 77 years. She lived a good long healthy and active life.

She is predeceased by her husband Johnnie Romero, her parents, Sixto Perez, Mercedes Carmona, and siblings.

She is survived by eleven children: Rojelio (Roy) Romero, Rosalba Morales, Mary Helen (Nena)
Valderas, Johnny Romero, Jr., and wife, Ortencia, Lilly Gaden, and husband Dave, Arthur Romero, Martin Romero, Mario Romero, Jessie Romero, Anna Zarate, and Charlene Romero.
She is also survived by 26 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Ruben Andrade who accompanied Rosa on their daily visits to check on mom, ran errands, and was very supportive to mom.
