Michael Larry Melendez, 38, of Waco passed away Saturday, October 3, 2015. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 7 at OakCrest Funeral Home with Deacon Jessie Garza officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 6 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Michael was born October 5, 1976 in Waco, Texas to parents Joe and Virginia (DuQue) Melendez. He graduated from University High School and attended TSTC, earning his certification in Aviation Mechanics. Michael was a generous person, always willing to help those in need. He loved to cook and would often use his neighbors as his taste testers. In his youth he served as an altar boy at St. Louis Catholic Church. He loved God and he adored his family, especially his children. Michael’s sense of humor and his zest for life will be deeply missed.

Michael was preceded in death by his father, Joe Melendez; brother, Joe Melendez, Jr.; and nephew, Jason Larey.

He leaves behind the children he cherished with all his heart, Alisa, Michael and Frankie Melendez; his loving mother, Virginia DuQue; brother, Joseph Melendez and wife Pat; sisters, Sylvia Larey and husband Ransom and Lisa Cochran and husband Mickey; his beloved aunt, Juanita Melendez; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and a host of friends.

Pallbearers will be Jesse Jacinto, David Jacinto, Jason Jacinto, Val Cantu, Jr., Thomas Vaquera, Marco Vaquera, Joe Marroquin, Ernest Melendez, Jamie Vela. Val Cantu, Sr. will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
