Mike Short

Mike R. Short, 54, of Hewitt, passed away Saturday, March 27, 2010.

Services will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at OakCrest Funeral Home with the Rev. Agathus Robinson officiating. Burial will follow at Rosemound Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.

Mike was born on May 17, 1955 in Chincoteague, VA to Warren and Rhoda (Edgar) Strickland. He married the love of his life, Regina Merritt, and they spent 31 wonderful years together.

Mike was a talented musician; he played the guitar, violin and loved to sing. He was very active in the Boy Scouts and coached baseball and football for his children. Mike was also into martial arts and received two black belts.

He was preceded in death by his father, Warren Strickland.

Mike is survived by his wife of 31 years, Regina Short of Hewitt; sons, Shawn Short of the U.S. Navy and Joseph Short of Jacksonville, FL; mother, Rhoda Strickland of Bucyrus, KS; sisters, Chris Henning and husband, Allan of Olathe, KS, and Rochelle Mau and husband, Ron, of Cullowhee, NC; brothers, Dennis Strickland and wife, Jennifer of Bucyrus, KS and John Strickland and wife, Cheryl, of Morgantown, KY; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Pallbearers will be Dr. Lance Oberg, Greg Surber, John Strickland, Dennis Strickland, Allan Henning and Frank Jones.

Honorary pallbearer will be Freddie Kish.

Special thanks to Providence Hospice and to the Live Oak Veterinary Park.
