Mildred Fleming Dixon

Mildred lived a full and loving life. She died peacefully at age 100 on December 27, 2024, at a local hospital with her loving and dedicated daughter, Marian Funderburk, at her side. Services will be held at OakCrest Funeral Home on Thursday, January 2, 2024 at 1:00 pm with visitation following. Burial will be Saturday, January 4, 2024 at 12:00 pm at Plainview Memorial Park, Plainview, TX.

Mildred was born to Oscar Lee Fleming and Sarah Alice Corbell Fleming. She graduated from Hale Center High School, as did her future husband, Robert Lee Dixon, in 1941. After Robert’s discharge from the Navy at the end of WWII they married in 1945 and began farming in the Mayfield community near Hale Center. They had two children, Marian and Darrell. At age 36 Mildred returned to college, graduating from Wayland Baptist University in 1962. She was an elementary school teacher for 25 years at Hale Center. She and Robert suffered the greatest tragedy of their lives with the death of their son, Darrell, at age 19.

After Robert’s death in 1991, Mildred moved to Waco to be near Marian, her husband Emmett Funderburk, and grandchildren, Eric and Holly. She was active in her church, Western Heights Baptist Church and developed friendships that lasted until her death. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Marie, Marjorie, Mozelle, and Martha Jane; sister-in-law, Mary Lou; and their husbands.

Mildred is survived by daughter, Marian; son-in-law, Emmett; grandchildren, Eric Funderburk and Holly Baker; Eric’s wife, Jennie (Wivagg) and sons, Barrett, Trevor, and Reid; Holly’s husband, Jim Baker and daughter, Edie. She is also survived by loving nieces and nephews.

We hand this magnificent woman to the eternal peace and love of God and to be reunited with all those who have been waiting for her. Those left here will cherish her memory and attempt to live by her example.
