August 23, 1926 – April 13, 2014

Nadine Pollard, age 87, of Waco passed away on April 13, 2014, surrounded by friends and family. A graveside service will be conducted at Waco Memorial Park on Thursday, April 17, 2014, at 11:00 a.m., David Story officiating.

Nadine was born in Dallas, Texas, to Ray and Beulah Robinson. She graduated from North Dallas High School, and she attended S. M. U. She later worked for Hunt Oil Co., which was owned by billionaire H. L. Hunt. She said that she saw Mr. Hunt bring sack lunches to work and park blocks away from his building to save money.

She later married the love of her life, Jodie Pollard, on February 22, 1951. Several years and three children later, she enrolled with MCC and Baylor where she received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education. Nadine taught at Bruceville-Eddy Elementary School until she retired. She was adamant that her students study and do their work to ensure that they received the best education possible while still making learning fun.

Nadine also stressed grades and education to her children. She was instrumental to all of their receiving college degrees and beyond.

Nadine was a member of Lakewood Christian Church for a number of years. She enjoyed working out at WRS, entertaining her friends and neighbors and laughing at the antics of her dogs, Gracie and Shadow. During her later years she could still engage in informed discussions on current events.

Nadine was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by her daughter, Leslie Pollard of Richardson, Texas, sons, Craig Pollard of Waco and Brian Pollard and wife, Jan Pollard, of China Spring, her granddaughter, Kelsey Pollard, grandsons, Chad Pollard and Logan Pollard, and step grandson, Kyle Elkins.

Nadine’s family wishes to thank the volunteers, nurses, doctors and staff of Providence Medical Center for taking care of her during her last illness. The family also appreciates her wonderful neighbors, friends and assistant who constantly dropped by and looked after her. She will be sorely missed.
