Nancy N. Moore (Granny), beloved wife, mother, and grandmother to all who knew her, passed away on April 1, 2023, at the age of 87. She will be remembered as a helpful neighbor with a generous spirit and a loyal friend. A memorial service celebrating Nancy's life is scheduled for 12 P.M., June 3, 2023 at OakCrest Funeral Home Chapel.
She was born in upstate New York to Arthur and Hazel Gauthier, the youngest of five children. In high school, she played basketball, and volleyball, and was selected ‘best dressed’ in her class. Shortly after graduating, Nancy joined the Air Force and married John Moore, also in the Air Force, and they had two daughters Lois and Donna.
They traveled throughout the US and, while John continued serving in the AF, Nancy stayed home raising their daughters and “holding down the fort.” She was a devoted mother who enjoyed coaching softball with her girls and eventually was tagged as Granny as she coached the Granny go-getters. The tag stuck. She was so proud of both her daughters as they made their own Air Force careers.
After raising her family, Nancy found a successful career in retail where she met her best friend and companion for life James (Mac) McLemore, until his death in 2001. They settled in Waco, Texas to be close to Lois and her boys.
She attended many grandson’s sporting events, and family celebrations with Donna’s and Lois's family and even traveled abroad. After retiring from retail sales, Nancy enjoyed doing crafts, making cards, going to Starbucks, and attending the Lady Bears Basketball games. She was an avid sports fan who enjoyed her great-grandkids’ sporting events and was always there to offer them her unconditional love.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, four siblings, Mac, step-granddaughter Kelsey, and great-granddaughter Noel.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Lois Wollard and Donna Burton, as
well as her stepchildren Jon McLemore, Darin Mclemore, and Marcella Champitto. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren, Jason, Brandon, Cassie, JT, Cody, Tabitha, Haley, and many great-grandchildren, as well as her beloved cat Jenny.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, please donate in her memory to Fuzzy Friends Rescue in Waco, Tx.
Rest in peace, Granny. You will always be in our hearts and memories.
