Nellie Friel Franklin, 90, of Waco, passed away Saturday, July 7, 2012. Funeral services will be 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 11 at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 – 8 p.m. Tuesday at OakCrest Funeral Home.

Nellie was born October 11, 1921 in Birmingham, Al to Tom and Netta (Pearce) Friel. It was there, in Birmingham, that she meets and marries her husband, Thomas Chester Franklin. Not long afterwards, they moved to Waco.

Nellie assisted her husband, who taught at Baylor University in the Chemistry department for over 40 years. She later taught chemistry at Baylor University as well. Nellie was a member of Columbus Ave. Baptist Church and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Nellie was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Thomas C. Franklin; grandson, Louis Guy Miller; son in law, Bert Williams.

Nellie is survived by her daughters, Irene Williams, Margaret Franklin, and Janice Worsham; son, Thomas Franklin and wife, Patty; grandchildren, David Miller and wife, Amy, Tena Klecka, Teresa Hamby, Dennis Franklin, Joanna Franklin, and Molly Franklin; great-grandchildren, David Conner, Morgan, Shayne, Zack, Tony, Megan, and Trisha.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Thomas C. and Nellie Franklin Endowment Fund in Chemistry, at Baylor University or to your favorite charity.
