Nettie Louise Omenson
July 9, 1918 – May 8, 2008
Nettie Louise (Whitley) Omenson, age 89, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday May 8, 2008 at the St. Catherine Center in Waco, Texas. Services will be 2 pm Monday May 12, 2008 at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd. in Waco, TX; graveside services will follow at 4 pm at Wilson Valley Cemetery in Little River. Visitation will be 6 to 8 pm Sunday at the funeral home.
Born July 9, 1918 in Little River, Texas, Louise was the first child of William Thurman Whitley Sr. and Gladys Ann Whitley. She had two brothers, Robert Allen Whitley Sr. and William Thurman Whitley Jr., both having preceded her in death.
Louise's passion in life was caring for others. She fulfilled that passion through active participation in the Lutheran Church and a nursing career that spanned more than 50 years. After graduating from Clifton High School she moved to Temple, Texas to attend King's Daughters School of Nursing where she received her Registered Nurse diploma in 1940. During the first half of her career she worked in hospitals providing care to patients in Clifton, Texas City, Galveston and San Antonio; and in the later half, she provided care to the elderly as a nursing home administrator in Texas City, San Antonio, and Taylor.
She was a loving mother and grandmother and is survived by sons William Lloyd Omenson and wife, Cathy; Oscar Elling Omenson; Olaf Lee Omenson and wife, Mary; six grandchildren, Olaf Lee II, Amy Christine, Anna Catherine, Audrey Ann, Lana Kay, and Oscar Elling II.
