Newton Loy Harris passed away peacefully at home on February 19, 2022. A graveside service will be held at Oakwood Cemetery on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at 10:00 AM. Visitation will be held Monday, February 21, 2022 at OakCrest Funeral home from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Lunch will be held at George’s Banquet Hall at 11:30 AM on February 22, 2022.
Newton was born May 10, 1927 to Raymond and Julia Harris. Newton was known for his love of life and sense of humor for all his 94 years. He married Marian Hulen on February 20, 1947 and enjoyed her company and loving spirit for 72 years until her death in June 2019. Newton consistently and continuously showed his love for his family in his everyday life.
His career took many paths before moving to Waco and enjoying the benefits of owning various rental properties. Newton served in the United States Navy until his honorable discharge in 1946. He enjoyed success in selling insurance and real estate for many years. Newton also was proud to have been a Master Mason for over 75 years.
His legacy includes ten grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. He will continue to be an inspiration to his family for his hard work and dedication to Christian principles.
He loved the Lord, his family, and Baylor University, where he worked after his retirement. He worked at the old Baylor Stadium for many years before the Bears moved to their new football stadium.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to Rose, Rosie, Janie and Berta, whose loving care and devotion will never be forgotten. The family is also grateful to Bluebonnet Health Services, especially Mark and Holley Walsh and Jodie, for their care. Newton was thankful to Wanda Glaze from First Woodway Baptist Church for her ministry.
Newton is survived by two sons, Newton Harris, Jr. and wife, Deb, of Waco, Texas; Danny Harris and wife, Arlene, of Arlington, Texas; two daughters, Shirley Wills and husband, Curtis, of West, Texas; Paula Holyfield and Mickey Monahan of Seaford, Virginia; two sisters, Anita Mazanec of Waco, Texas and Betty McLain of Fort Worth, Texas.
Newton was preceded in death by his wife, mom and dad, brothers Malcolm, Melvin, Jim Bob, and Jack Harris, and sister, Frances Spears.
