Dr. O. L. Oliver, Jr., DVM, 80, of Eddy, passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at his residence. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, October 8, 2011 at First
Baptist Church of Lorena with Rev. Mike Patterson officiating. Burial will follow at Cottonwood Cemetery. Visitation with Dr. Oliver's family will be 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday, October 7, at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.
O. L. was born December 17, 1930 in Lorena to Obie Laurence Oliver Sr and Lydia Schwank Oliver. In 1950, he married Marlene Wells in Brownwood. They enjoyed 61 years of marriage. He graduated from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in 1961. He then began a 35 year career with the USDA retiring in 1995. In his earlier days, O. L. enjoyed playing baseball and was once a member of the Legion Post Team #196 in Brownwood. He also enjoyed spending time with his son Obie, during his Boy Scout days. O. L. was a member of First Baptist Church of Lorena.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Betty Young.
O. L. is survived by his wife, Marlene; son, Obie Oliver, III and wife, Lisa; daughter, Lisa Anderson and husband, Milton; grandchildren, Brett Oliver, Andrew Anderson and Jacob Anderson; brothers, Thomas Oliver and wife, Nola, Gerald Oliver and wife, Nan and Bill Oliver and wife, Connie; sister, Jean Williams; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Scott & White Hospice and to Deana Lane for their support and care of O. L.
