Omalene "Lyn" Garon

On September 27, 1941 in San Antonio, Texas, Omalene Herron was born to Melvin and Robbie (Rentz) Herron. She was the middle daughter of three, the oldest, Bobbie Jo and the youngest, Patricia “Pat”.

She attended South San Antonio High School and graduated in the Class of 1960. She worked at various office jobs over the years in San Antonio. When her dad had to retire for health reasons, and her parents decided to move to their home on Lake LBJ, she moved to Waco to be near her sisters and work. There she met the love of her life, Edgar “Eddie” Garon in 1973 and they married in January 1976. With that marriage she was blessed with 3 step children, Suzie, Craig and Michael Garon. They were members of St. Louis Catholic Church.

Omalene enjoyed reading, scrapbooking, baking, collecting unicorns and going gambling with her niece and nephew, Jennifer and Kris Cowan, with whom she had a very close and loving relationship. She was known amongst her grandchildren and great grandchildren as “the BEST Christmas cookie creator ever”! She LOVED to cook and bake all kinds of goodies. Eddie thought she was the only one in the world that knew how to cook! She also had a deep love for her animals and all critters. She never turned away a stray! She even had Eddie building “cat houses”. Her favorite time of year was fall and her favorite holiday was Halloween. She loved to dress in crazy costumes and decorate with skulls.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Robbie Herron; her much loved nephew and godson, Jason Collins; brother’s-in-law, Dale Foulds and Bubber Collins; daughter-in-law, Nancy Shaw Garon; nephew, Richard (Rick) Hill; and infant grandson Christopher Fulbright.

She is survived by her husband, Eddie Garon; stepchildren, Suzanne Fulbright and Tom, Craig Garon and Deanna, Mike Garon and Cheryl; sisters, Bobbie Jo (Herron-Hill) Foulds, Patricia “Pat” Collins; six grandchildren, Tommy Fulbright, Kyle (Fulbright) Pillans, Stacy (Garon) Herrin and Brent, Amy Garon, Cody Garon and Brandi, Ashlye (Garon) Ryan and Andy; and twelve great-grandchildren, Sebastian and Presley Fulbright, Kyah and Kolby Pillans, Abby Laine, Logan Toole, Roy Bernal, Gunner, Brody and Emma Lynn Garon, Autumn and Lucy Ryan. She always joked with Eddie that he had to share his kids with her, but the grands and great grands were all hers!!
Nieces and nephews: Jennifer (Collins) Cowan and Kris, Heath Collins and Kristina, David Hill, Karen Chesser and Gary, Donald Hill and Pat, and Melissa Hill. Great nieces and nephews: Lauren and Seth Cowan, Michael and Ryan Collins.

Omalene always felt she had a very blessed life with wonderful family and friends, including her Getterman family. She will be dearly missed by all.

Always inseparable, Eddie and Lyn’s lives will be celebrated together. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00pm Thursday, March 7, 2024 at Oakcrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd, Waco, Texas with the Rosary recited at 6:00pm.
