The Rev. Paul Wesley Hopkins Sr., 86 of Robinson, went home to his heavenly father on Sunday, June 10, 2007 at a local hospital.
Services will be 2 pm Friday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque with the Rev. Allen Grant officiating.
Military graveside honors will follow in Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6 – 8 pm on Thursday at OakCrest Funeral Home.
Paul was born Nov 24, 1920 in Houston TX to Henry Martin Hopkins and Madge Golbow Hopkins. He graduated from Waco High School in 1939. He attended Baylor University, and then went to serve his country in World War II.
He joined the US Navy in 1942 and served as a Pharmacists mate and Corpsman on the USS Heywood in the Pacific Theatre. He was one the fortunate survivors of the Tarawa Beach Landing.
He was employed by the US Postal Service for 37 years, and served as a supply pastor for the United Methodist Church for many years. An avocation he deeply loved and enjoyed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Madge and Henry Hopkins, his sisters, Esther Hopkins and Dorothy Madge Hopkins, and wives, Connie Johnson Hopkins and Frankie Monroe Hopkins.
He is survived by his loving wife Dorothy Blackmon Hopkins, children Paul W Hopkins Jr. and wife Carol, Pamilla Hopkins, Mark Hopkins and wife Kathi, Al Goolsby and wife Lynn, Donna Anderson and husband Scottie, Valda Monroe and husband Keith Blevins, Mike Blackmon and wife Laura, John Blackmon and wife Sandra, Lisa Walters and husband Larry, 18 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews and others who he deeply loved.
His memory shall live on in his family, and his kind and gentle nature will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
