Peggy “Poppy” Hollowell, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away Thursday, July 6, 2023.
Visitation will be 10 a.m., July 12 at OakCrest Funeral Home. Service will follow at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 12, at Oakcrest Funeral Home in Waco.
Peggy was born July 8, 1935. She grew up in Garrett, Texas. Peggy attended Southwest Texas Teachers College (S W Twa Twa as she affectionately called it) and became a speech therapist in Fort Worth. There she met the love of her life, Bill Hollowell. They married on August 19, 1960. They had three children and Peggy dedicated her life to raising them. Later she worked as a reading specialist at Meadowbrook Elementary in Waco.
She was affectionately called Poppy by neighbors, friends and family. Peggy was an artist (a “piddler” as she called it) and will be remembered every Christmas as the many ornaments she made and shared yearly are displayed. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She was very proud of all her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren and loved to brag about them every chance she got.
Peggy was preceded in death by husband, Billy Hollowell; parents, Henry and Drucilla Campbell; and siblings, James “Sug” Campbell and Dean Campbell.
She is survived by her children Deana Burley of Waco, Brian Hollowell and wife Lara of Dallas, and Cathy Hoeft and husband Daniel of Austin; grandchildren, Ryan Burley and wife Amber , Russell Burley, John Hoeft, Olivia Hoeft, Abigayle Hoeft, Summer Hollowell, Brody Hollowell and Colton Hollowell; along with great-grandchildren Nicholas Burley and Aiya Burley.
