Pernell J. Peterson
August 20, 1916 – March 27 2015

Pernell J. “Pete” Peterson, 98, passed away Friday, March 27, 2015, following a brief illness. Visitation will be held 12:30 pm Monday, March 30, 2015 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 800 N. New Road, followed by services at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Paul Krupicka officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery.

Pete was born in Clifton, TX, August 20, 1916, to Helmer L. and Gunda A. (Johnson) Peterson. He attended schools in Waco and Clifton, graduating from Clifton College. He settled in Waco, where he worked for Waco Typewriter Company and Waco Printing Company. While delivering a typewriter to a local insurance office, he met the love of his life, Audrey R. Thompson, and they were married August 18, 1942. They celebrated 70 years of marriage prior to her death in 2012. Pete and Audrey had three children: daughters, Patricia and husband, John McElfish of Waco, and Carol and husband, Don Blasche of Hewitt, and son, Tom Peterson of Sugar Land. Pete retired in 1981, and together he and Audrey spent their retirement serving their church and enjoying visits with family.

Pete and Audrey were members of St. Matthew Lutheran Church for many years, where they were involved and active in the choir and Over 50 Club. Even when failing health prevented their attendance, they kept a close relationship with the church and its members.

In addition to his children, Pete is survived by six grandchildren, three great granddaughters, sister-in-law, Imadean Peterson; and several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the residents and staff of Stoney Brook of Hewitt, where our dad spent the last three years of his life. It truly was his home and he loved you all. We also thank the staff of Baylor S&W Hillcrest Hospice and the nursing staff of Four South for their kindness and compassion during his final days.

Memorials may be made to St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Caritas of Waco or a charity of your choice.
