Phil was born December 3, 1942 at home in Gatesville, TX to Phil Weaver, Sr. and Irene Turner Weaver. They moved to Waco when he was 2 years old upon his fathers return from his duty in England during WWII. Phil attended Jack and Jill Pre-School, Dean Highland and graduated from Waco High School in 1960. Upon graduating he joined the Air Force and married Nancy Lyon and moved to Topeka, KS. He was an airplane mechanic for 4 years during the Vietnam War. During that time they had 2 children, Philip III and Vicki. They divorced in 1965.
From the age of 15, Phil’s love for music began. He played drums, sang and was in bands in Waco and Austin. In 1965, upon leaving the Air Force he joined the Thingies Band to pursue his career, traveling from Kansas to Florida and Austin. It was in 1968 in Austin he met and married his wife of 47 years, Elli – his love, best friend and “angel.” In April 1973 Phil and Elli found Jesus at the “Sign of the Fish Coffee House”, a ministry of Columbus Ave. Baptist Church when Arthur Blessitt was there sharing Jesus to the lost.
He then entered MCC and Baylor and received a degree in Social Work and began a journey of love, care, and work in Jesus for Child Protective Services. Then the Lord changed his path and in 1989 he moved his family to Newnan, GA to be the HR Director of Pope and Talbot Paper Co., for 8 years. Phil continued to lead worship, sing, and play drums all for the Glory of God. Newnan, GA became home. In 1996, after the sudden death of his brother and father they returned to Waco to take care of his mother. After a short return to Child Protective Services he became the HR Director of the newly established Pilgrims Pride in Waco. And in 2007 he returned to social work with Adult Protective Services until his death.
Phil was always committed to and in love with Jesus, leading others into the worship and praise of Him. The Highland, Grace Communities and Hilltop Fellowship were all blessed by his life and his worship to Jesus. He was a husband, father, grandfather, co-worker, and friend- all to Jesus!
He was preceded in death by his parents, Phil and Irene Weaver; brother, Stephen Weaver; precious daughter, Heather Weaver.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Elli; son, Philp Weaver III and wife, Amy; daughter, Vicki and husband, Tommy of Bosqueville; Christen Weaver of Waco; and Stacy Mace and husband, Brad of Bruceville; 13 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and a multitude of devoted Christian friends
The family wants to especially bless Providence Hospital ICU, Providence Hospice, Michelle, Wilda, Ida, and Skye. How precious to have Jesus through them caring for Phil.
