Col. Quentin (Wink) A. Donnellan, USA, Ret., 89, of Waco passed away Friday, September 25, 2009.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Louis Catholic Church with Msgr. Mark Deering as celebrant. Burial with full military honors will be at the Central Texas Veterans Cemetery in Killeen.

Col. Donnellan was born December 8, 1919 in Emporia, Kansas to Joseph J. Donnellan and Grace (Ingram) Donnellan. He married Helen Bergevin July 12, 1942 in Long Beach, California.

He studied at Emporia State Teachers College where he played football. His education was interrupted when his National Guard Unit there was activated for service in World War II. He landed in Normandy at Omaha Beach. After the war, he returned to college at Kansas State University where he graduated with degrees in Electrical Engineering and Business Administration. He then worked for Phillips Petroleum at Bartlesville, Okla., and was recalled to serve in the Korean War then retiring from active duty. He received a Bronze Star with two Oak Leaf clusters, and was awarded the French Liberation Medal.

He worked for Phillips Petroleum at the McGregor plant, later North American Aviation and Hercules, retiring in 1984. His projects there included the Sparrow, Shrike, and the Hawk missile programs.

He was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church where he was a past president of the Booster Club. He was also president of the Central Texas section of the American Rocket Society. He was an avid golfer, playing in tournaments in and out of the United States.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.

Col. Donnellan is survived by his wife of 67 years, Helen of Waco; sons, Thomas Lawrence and wife, Berniece of Lago Vista, and Robert Quentin Donnellan of Waco; sister, Winnie Nelson of Attelboro, Mass.; and grandsons, Eric Thomas, Quentin Arthur, Nathan Lawrence and Robert Shane Donnellan.
