Randy Gene Merrill
, age 77, of Waco, Texas, passed away on July 25th, 2024.
Randy was born in Waterloo, Iowa to Gil and Marie Merrill. He wasn’t born in Texas, but got here as soon as he could. Randy graduated from Richfield High in 1964, where he began the tradition of making lifelong friends. He studied Business Administration at Sam Houston State University and was a member the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity.
After college, Randy was commissioned as an Officer in the US Army in 1969 and served in Korea as a First Lieutenant until 1971.
Randy started out his career in 1975 as a stockbroker at Merrill Lynch and EF Hutton, then upon going independent in the early 90s he became more of an investment analyst and advisor for his clients. He poured over the WSJ daily and was infamous for clipping and sharing articles about the economy, the markets (especially gold & precious metals), politics and more.
Randy and bride, Nancy Merrill, were confirmed into the Catholic Church and later married on July 9th, 2011. Randy was active in the Knights of Columbus at St. Jerome’s Catholic Church as a Fourth Degree Knight.
He was a proud and loving father to daughters, Allison and Abby, and step-children Chet, Kerby, and Elyse; devoted grandfather to Alyssa, Caden, Landen, Zach, Jordan, Roman and Quinn; dear brother to Carol; and cherished family member of: Gary, Clint, Nick, Ryan and Danielle.
Randy was a beloved member of the community who never met a stranger. He became the social director of many events, and founded the Thursday Afternoon Lunch Bunch. He was greatly loved by many and his memory will live on in our hearts.
