Randy Dean Sommerfelt
December 23, 1953 – March 15, 2014

Randy Dean Sommerfelt, 60, of Waco, passed away in a tragic accident on Saturday, March 15, 2014, in Waco. Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Boulevard. Committal with military honors will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen.

Randy was born in Paw Paw, Mich., to Elmer and Evelyn Sommerfelt. He graduated from Paw Paw High School in 1972. After working in the concrete business for eight years, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served faithfully in Desert Storm. After he was honorably discharged in 1993, Randy worked as a civilian diesel mechanic at Fort Stewart, Ga. until he developed blindness. He then moved to Waco in 2001 to raise his family. Randy was a devoted husband and father who will be dearly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, DeJanee.

Randy is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Luzmila “Mimi” Sommerfelt; son, Randy Lee Sommerfelt of Waco; daughter, Angela Gasper and her husband, Jeff; grandchildren, Troy and Katie Gasper; and brother, Dale M. Sommerfelt and wife, Catherine of Paw Paw, Mich.
