Regina was born July 11, 1924 to Gustav and Bertha Behnke Sommerfeld near Clifton in rural Bosque County, Texas. She was the youngest among twelve siblings. Her mother died when she was twelve years old. Regina graduated from Clifton High School in 1942. She and her niece, Ella Urban, were on one of the first girls basketball teams in high school. Regina went on to Providence Hospital in Waco to become a cadet nurse. She was a nurse in a doctor’s office in Waco where she met our dad, R.B. Green, a pharmaceutical rep. R.B. Green and Regina married July 16, 1946. Regina and R.B. started Green’s La Vega Pharmacy in the 1950’s in Bellmead. She also found a 75 million year old prehistoric sea turtle on their farm near Gholson. This turtle is now on display at the Mayborn Museum.
Regina was known for her homemade bread and kind heart to her many friends and family. She worked part time at Hillcrest Hospital in Surgical Recovery and many of her friends asked her to be there when they woke from surgery.
Regina lived a wonderful life and we will all miss her.
