Rex Wilson Howle, 93, of Waco, passed away Wednesday, July 25,2012 at Wesley Woods Healthcare Center. Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 28 at Rosemound Cemetery with the Rev. Ralph Rummage officiating. Visitation with the family will be 30 minutes prior to the start of the service at Rosemound Cemetery.

Rex was born October 10, 1918 to Drewery and Dussie (Brannon) Howle in China Spring. He was the youngest son of 13 children. After high school Rex served in the U.S. Army as Staff Sergeant and peacekeeper in Korea after W.W.II. He returned home in 1946 and soon after married the love of his life, Marjorie Cox in 1949 at Columbus Ave. Baptist Church.

Rex worked at General Tire Company for several years. He was also a real estate salesman. However it was with Combined American Insurance, that Rex found his true calling as an insurance salesman. He loved to meet new people and was also described as gentle and kind. A testament to his character is illustrated by his nickname, Papa Bear, given to him by his salesmen. After 35 years of service Rex retired. As many who retire, he then became an entrepreneur as an antique dealer with his wife.

Rex was an member of Columbus Ave. Baptist Church, a choir leader, and active in his Sunday school class. Rex was also a mason for over 50 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and all of his siblings.

Rex is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marjorie Meriwether Howle; daughters, Beverly Howle, Sharon Darling Green and husband, Jim; son, Bill H. Howle and wife, Dianna Howle; 7 grandchildren; 12 great- grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Columbus Avenue Baptist Church.
