Richard Harold Johnson, 71, of Waco, husband of Linda Diane Johnson, passed away Sunday, April 29, 2012 in a Waco care center. Graveside services with military honors will be 9:30 a.m. Thursday, May 3, 2012 at Oakwood Cemetery with the Rev. Greg Knippa officiating. Visitation with Mr. Johnson's family will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.
Richard was born June 8, 1940 in Bakersfield, CA. to Lawrence Johnson and Tressie Marie Houston Johnson. He married Linda Diane Reese July 21, 1972 at the First Baptist Church in Sand Spring, Texas. He served as a Police Officer for over 19 years in the Texas Panhandle and later as a child care worker for 19 years at the Methodist Children's Home here in Waco.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Tressie Marie Bryan; his father, Lawrence "Shorty" Johnson; and his step-father, Webster G. Bryan.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Linda Diane Johnson; his children, Kevin Johnson of Oakwood and Misty Huff of Hewitt along with their spouses, Katie Johnson and Josh Huff; grandsons, Bryan Reese Johnson and Kevin Keith Johnson, Jr.; brother-in-law, Jerry Reese and wife, Cathy of Little Rock; sister-in-law, Marcia Reese of Graham, Texas; uncle and aunt, Doyle and Bonnie Houston of Newkirk, Oklahoma; dear friends, Danny and Jean Miller of Laguna Park; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and families in Vian , Oklahoma; the residents and staff of the Methodist Children's Home; and the staff at UT Charter School.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff at both Providence Hospice and Royal Manor for their care and support.
