Richard Fulton Perley was born on Mother’s Day, May 12, 1929 in Medford, MA to Howard Johnson Perley and Bertha Perkins Perley. He grew up in Reading, MA and graduated from Reading High School in 1947.
He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1950 and served in Korea. After the war, he was stationed in Waco, where he met and married Bobbie Duncan in 1954. They would have celebrated their 60th anniversary next February.
He joined IBM in October 1954 and graduated from Baylor University in 1959. His 30-year IBM career took him from Waco to Ft. Worth and finally to Endicott, New York until his retirement in 1984. At that time they moved back to Waco where he taught computer maintenance technology at TSTC.
Our Dad was a kind and compassionate person who led us by example. His passion and enthusiasm for life was limitless, especially in the areas of music, cooking, remodeling, and traveling. Both he and our Mom loved Baylor Basketball and followed the Lady Bears all over the country and cheered them onto two NCAA Championships.
For many years he was a dedicated member of the Waco Sunrise Rotary Club, serving as president and treasurer; and a committed volunteer at The American Cancer Society, serving as president and on the state board. Shortly before his death, he expressed a desire to thank all of the people he worked with and who mentored him in both Rotary and the ACS. He also enjoyed volunteering at the Providence ER before his final illness.
He is survived by his loving wife, Bobbie; daughter, Vicki of Dallas; son, Greg, daughter-in-law Christy and grandson Andrew of Fort Worth; sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Paul Dearborn of Cheshire, CT; nephew, Kelly Cox and wife Linda of Rowlett; and niece, Patti Cole of Stamford, CT.
Charitable donations may be made to a scholarship fund at Waco Sunrise Rotary Club, PO Box 20114, Waco, TX 76702-0114 or to the Woodway United Methodist Church, 21000 Woodway Drive, Waco, TX 76712.
He was a great man, great husband and great father and we will miss him dearly.
