Richard “Pops” Black
February 25, 1946 – July 5, 2023
Richard Black, 77, of Waco, TX passed away Wednesday, July 5th at home. Services will be at Oakcrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 12th 6-8pm. Funeral service will be Thursday, July 13th at 2pm. Private burial to be held at later date.
Richard was born to Faye Tom and Rhoda Black on February 25, 1946 in North Little Rock, AR. He graduated from Palo Duro Amarillo High School in 1964. He served in the Army from September 1966 to September 1972. He graduated from UT Arlington with a bachelor in Math and Management in1980. He worked for TP&L from 1969 to 2012. He started as a grunt, then lineman, and retired as a manager in Waco, TX. He attended Home Church Waco for 22 years. He loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, with all his heart and was faithful until the end.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Faye Tom and Rhoda Black and son Dayton Black.
He survived by his wife, Cathy Black, of 53 years. He is also survived by siblings Tom Black, Harry Black and his wife Ivetta, and D’Ann Black, and children, Scott and Jean Taylor and Scott and Amy Horne. He is also survived by grandchildren and great-grandchildren which include Patrick and Shay Patterson and their children, Ryder, Lainey, Elizabeth, Eleanor, Cole Horne, Jessie Horne, Josie Horne, Ciera Black, Alex Larez, Chloe Taylor, and Evie Taylor.
He will be missed dearly by many friends and family.
