Dick was born October 8, 1940 in Beardstown, Illinois to William and Wilma Wessel. Dick was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Patsy Stephens.
Dick worked several places in his lifetime, always insuring his family was taken care of. He was a welder for Peabody Coal Company in Illinois. He also worked for Downing Brothers Construction of Waco and for the City of Waco, from where he retired.
Other than his family, Dick had 2 great loves…..deer hunting and his cat, George. As soon as those grandkids were old enough to hold a gun, and showed an interest in deer hunting, off to the deer lease they would go. They spent many precious hours building deer stands and getting ready for deer season. Many years….many memories were made.
Dick is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Margaret Ann Wessel, who spent many hours taking care of him in his last days; daughter, Cheri Morriss and husband, Tommy; son, Scott Wessel; 6 grandchildren, Cody, Kelsey, Caitlin, Karley Spillers and Lindsey and Garrett Wessel; and brother, Charles Wessel.
A special thank you to Baylor Scott & White Hospice and Dr. Holgiun for their compassion and care.
If desired, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations many be made to the American Lung Association, www.lung.org.
