Bob passed away at his residence to be with his Lord while surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with heart and lung disease. In fitting with his approach that characterized his life and work, he remained positive until finally succumbing to the last stages of his illness.
Graveside services with military honors will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday, October 29, 2007 at the Dallas/Ft. Worth National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at OakCrest Funeral Home. A memorial video will be shown during the visitation.
Bob was born May 18, 1929 in Lubbock to Allie J. and Robert Sidney Booker, Sr. He was educated during his early years in Lubbock and graduated from SMU with a business degree. He then served his country as 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and afterwards served in the Air Reserve.
Bob started his business career in the Cafeteria business in Lubbock. He then left Texas and moved to New Mexico to help run the family business, Rio Colorado Lodge, in Red River, NM, serving as President. During his tenure, the business experienced its largest growth expansion ever. In addition, he worked in the commercial real estate business. It was in New Mexico that he met and married Barbara, his soul-mate and love of his life.
They returned to Texas in 1986, living in Horseshoe Bay, Austin, Ft. Worth and Waco.
Bob loved the outdoors and was an accomplished golfer and loved snow skiing in New Mexico and Colorado. All his other time was devoted to his family. He was a loving, kind, wonderful husband, father and grandfather.
Left to cherish his memories is his wife of 34 years, Barbara Booker of the family home; daughters, Elaine and husband Reid McInvale of Houston, Lesa Booker of Little Rock, Arkansas, Allison and husband Mike Adams of Thornton, Texas; grandchildren Ryan Elizabeth Gamble, Austin Kellerman, Lloyd and Robert Chancellor and Michael and Mandy Adams.
The Booker family wishes to thank the Scott & White Hospice staff and a special thanks to Sherry who gave us much comfort.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Scott & White Hospice Program.
