Robert “Bob” Girard, 78, of Waco, passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at his residence. Funeral services with military honors will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 10, at OakCrest Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Sunday evening followed by visitation with Bob’s family until 8:00 p.m. at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.
Bob was born August 23, 1935 in Waco to Leo John Girard and Mary Hahmann Girard. Bob attended Waco High School and then enlisted with the United States Air Force. He served his country for four years while stationed in France. Upon his return to Waco, Bob went to work for the First National Bank. While working at the bank he met Shirley Maddox who later became his wife. He later worked for The Perry Company as a salesman and then worked for Readers Digest as a salesman. Bob then worked for Texas Farmer’s Union for the S.T.E.P. program until his retirement after 30 years of employment.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley.
Bob is survived by his son, Chris Girard and wife, Marcia of Pottsboro; daughter, Amy Kunze and husband, Jeff of Lorena; grandchildren, Jessica and Ashley Girard and Macy Kunze; sister, Mary Ann Moody and husband, Ron of Waco; and his Boston Terrier, Buster. Bob is also survived by his half-brothers and half-sisters, Joe Miller and wife, Pam, Johnny Girard and wife, Linda, Linda Henry and husband, Jack, Tommy Girard, Lillian Crawford and husband, Don, Sonny Girard and Cindy, Billy Girard and wife, Glenda and Terry Avants.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Bob may be directed to Happy Endings Dog Rescue, 516 North Hewitt Drive, Hewitt, TX 76643
