Robert Clark McCall, 85, of Waco, passed on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 following a two year siege of lung cancer. He died at his home with his family at his bedside. Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Saturday, February 11, 2012 at Waco Memorial Park with Rev. Dr. Jimmie Johnson officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, February 10, at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.
Mr. McCall was born January 13, 1927 in Waco, Texas to Robert Edmondson McCall and Mary Lola (Clark) McCall. Mr. McCall graduated from Waco High School in 1945 and, as a member of the Greatest Generation, joined the Army for the last few months of World War II. After his service in the Army he joined the Air Force, serving four years.
After his military service, Mr. McCall earned a degree in Radio and TV technology from Dallas Vocational School. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier in 1987. Mr. McCall was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers and the Disabled American Veterans.
In his adult life, Mr. McCall enjoyed traveling, cruises, and especially, quick trips to Elko & Wendover. He was a rare man who loved mowing his own yard at home. He was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather who enjoyed time with his wife, son, grandson and beloved cats and dogs.
Preceding him in death were his parents, sister, Thelma, and brother-in-law, Joe D. Campbell, of Waco.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Lucas McCall of Waco; Son, Ricky Wayne McCall of Garland; Grandson, Nathan Wayne McCall of Garland; Cousins, Dorothy Adkins, Montez Clark, James Russell Clark and wife Christie, all of West; and his much loved cat, Penny, who watched over him faithfully in sickness and health.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Providence Hospice for their thoughtful care at the end of Mr. McCall's life.
