Russell, a proud Chickasaw Indian, was born in Caddo, Oklahoma on September 20, 1933. His parents, Russell and Gail McCreary, had 4 children, Russell, George, Harold, and Ann. They attended a small Baptist Church in Zaneis, OK where Russell made his profession of faith at 8 years of age.

He attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, OK on a football scholarship. While at SOSU, he met his future wife, Sue Harper. They married on August 21, 1954 and celebrated their 70th anniversary in August. Two sons were born to this union, Dickie and Greg. Daughter-in-law Glenda, granddaughters, Jennifer and Jordan brought much joy to his life.

Russell worked for Continental Oil Co. before becoming self-employed as an oil jobber. Russell and Sue became members of Grace Temple Baptist Church in 1990 and spent many happy years with their church family in worship and fellowship.

Russell’s legacy is the many friends he made through the years. Russell was a good husband, good father, and a great PaPa.
