Ruth Laverne Gilchrest-Mullins, 88, passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2014. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, December 20, 2014 at OakCrest Funeral Home with Rev. Amos Humphries officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, December 19, 2014 at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.


Ruth was born in Gatesville, TX and graduated from high school there. She moved to Waco in her early adult years and worked for the city of Waco as secretary for many years prior to working 15 years in the general accounting department at Brazos Electric in Waco.

Ruth retired early when she met and married Curtis Mullins on April 21, 1978 in Waco. Ruth was a homemaker after they married and moved to Round Rock, TX. They returned to Waco when her husband transferred to Hercules as a test engineer.

After Curtis retired, they frequently traveled the United States and Europe. One of their favorite places to visit was Branson, Missouri where they traveled several times. They were married for 17 years until Curtis passed in April 1995.

Ruth was a member of Park Lake Drive Baptist Church where she was involved in “Busy Beavers” and a member of the Gleaners Class. Ruth and Curtis were always supporters and fans of their many nieces and nephews.
